This week in the New York Opera Fest, Divaria Productions will be presenting Don Giovanni in New York, The Center for Contemporary Opera Presents the World Premiere of Backwards from Winter and the HERE Arts Center continues it’s run of Symphonie Fantastique.  For more details about the festival check out nyoperafest.com.

Tan Dun’s “Buddha Passion” at the Dresden Music Festival, Liza lim’s Tree of Codes at the Spoleto Festival, Daivd Lang’s The Mile-Long Opera: a biography of 7 o’clock on New York’s Highline,will include the premiere of Fire Shut up in My Bones by Terence Blanchard in 2019.

This week in the New York Opera Fest, Divaria Productions will be presenting Don Giovanni in New York at the Basilica of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, The Center for Contemporary Opera Presents the world premiere of Backwards from Winter by Douglas Knehans and Juanita Rockwel, and the HERE Arts Center continues it’s run of Symphonie Fantastique.

Tan Dun’s “Buddha Passion” will be premiering at the Dresden Music Festival This Wednesday May 23. Sung in Chinese and Sanskrit. The story weaves together the lessons of Buddha with music is inspired by the ancient city of Dunhuang and the Mogao Caves.

If you are headed to the Charleston, South Carolina area for the Spoleto Festival, don’t miss Liza lim’s Tree of Codes inspired by Jonathan Safran Foer’s psychodelic book running  May 26 through June 7.

And this fall from Daivd Lang co-founder of Bang on a Can, on the Highline in New York, “The Mile-Long Opera: a biography of 7 o’clock” will run October 3 – 7.  The work is for 1,000 singers that will each be performing their own solos that can be experiences as you walk along the elevated park at your own pace. The libretto by Anne Carson and Claudia Rankine, was created from interviews with people around New York.

And the Opera Theater of St. Louis, who is premiering Huan Ruo’s “An American Soldier in 2 weeks, announced their 2019 season which will include the company’s 28th premiere, “Fire Shut up in My Bones” by Terence Blanchard.
