The Indie Opera Podcast (indieopera.com) began as a conversation between two opera lovers/performers (conductor Peter Szep and tenor Noah Lethbridge) in 2011. With the mission of educating the public about the work of innovative opera companies both in the United States and abroad, they began creating monthly episodes featuring different organizations, artists, or ideas.
Since 2011, two new hosts have joined (mezzo Brooke Larimer and director Walker Lewis), and the podcast has produced over 50 episodes featuring many exciting guests including composers Matthew Aucoin, Rachel J. Peters, Mark Adamo, David Herzberg, Laura Kaminsky, Robert Paterson, Donnacha Dennehy, Mohammed Fairouz, Stewart Copeland, Paola Prestini, Huang Ruo, Nico Muhly, Richard Brooks, David T. Little, librettists Royce Vavrek and David Cote, director R.B. Schlater, and dramaturg Cori Ellison, among many, many others.
An exciting and modern voice in the opera world, Indie Opera Podcast provides a valuable and entertaining service to an international audience. With subscribers on four continents using services like iTunes, and Stitcher, it covers wide-ranging topics that are relevant to today’s performers, producers, and opera-lovers, and it does so with great humor and honesty.
